Question Check engine light-Help

Hi everyone,

About two days ago, I noticed that the check engine light came on when I first started my car in the morning and still stays on til today. Well, I noticed that I forgot the gas tank cap loose. Anyway, even after I tightened the gas tank cap, the light never went off, it is still on. I am wondering if anyone of you can give an advise on how to get this light off or any comment on this issue.

Thanks for GTP Dad and LittleHoov,

I was able to clear the check engine light by removing the battery cable for about 45 minutes. I guess the PCM was reset and the check engine light was cleared.

Thanks again

Welcome to AF!!

Take the car to someone with a scanner and have the code read. If it had to do with the evaporative emissions system then clear it. Make sure to write down the code anyway. Regardless of what the code is post it here and we will see what we can do to help you repair the problem. Autozone will scan for free as long as the light is on.

Re: Check engine light-Help

You could also just reset the PCM by unhooking one of your battery cables for probably 20-30 minutes.

If that doesnt clear the light then the problem is still there.

BUT you might be better off to take GTPdad's advice on this and get it scanned and find out what the problem was, but im just giving you another option.

Re: Check engine light-Help

the exact same thing happened to me. auto zone pulled an evac code, so i dealt with the light for another 2-3 fillups, making sure the cap was tight. light went off.
