91 SE-R vs. 2003 20th Anniversary GTi

Yesterday I asked my cousin in his to Sentra to pick me up from band camp because I wanted him to race my boy who has a 2003 Volkswagen GTi 20the Anniversary 1.8T. My cousin has a 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R with SR20 and his only mods are headers and he played with the timing a little bit. As I was waiting for my cousin, my friend walked past me and I asked him if he would race a '91 SE-R and he said he wouldn't waste his time as he was laughing. Not even like a minute later my cousin showed up. We drove by the parked Golf(with my friend in it) and he chucked a rev at it then drove around the parkin lot. When we left we were right behind him and another car. The the other car pulled in a another lane and we were lined up at a red light. My cousin asked if he wanted to run it but he just shrugged a lil bit then the light turned green and my cousin took of a quick then slowed down and let the GTi get side by side and the just nodded at each other and took off. My cousin won but the GTi was right at his bumper. It seemed to pull on us a lil bit until my cousin would shift. We only raced to about 60. My first street race story. I know it's not as good in race detail but I'll try better next time.

Nice kill for him, but next time go a bit faster than 60 and see the outcome, though the GTI shouldve been ahead of the sentra the whole time, I'm not calling bs just saying that if you wouldve kept going the sentra wouldve been owned as how the GTI was only in 2nd gear and not even the end of it (if it was 5 speed, if it was 6 then he wouldve been about ready to shift into 3rd) But like I said, good kill and go one more time.

You would think so, but B13 Sentra SE-R's are quick little cars...

SR20DE's aren't push overs. Very stout for being N/A. Plus the cars are light weight and can handle the power easily... very nice suspension on them.

You're right, in that the GTI should have pulled it out in the end, but Classic SE-R's are no slouches in the right hands. Look for threads that include "carrrnuttt" and "SE-R" in this forum's archives.

Re: 91 SE-R vs. 2003 20th Anniversary GTi

I know they arent something to push over, but considering the fact that they are so old they probably don't have the power they did when they rolled out of the factory and I'm sure they lose a good amount to the wheels unlike the 1.8t's which lose less that 6% to the wheels from the stock settings if they are 2002+. (most dyno in at 168-173whp suprisingly enough) But again, I wasnt calling bs cause a street race is something different, but I do know the GTI wouldve caught him and had the SE-R for lunch, Probably by the time they hit 70.

Re: 91 SE-R vs. 2003 20th Anniversary GTi

Gotian: How do you think a stock GTI will do on the freeway and from a stop against a 5.0 Mustang GT with the following mods? -

-BBK equal length headers/H-pipe w/cats
-Flowmaster 50 series
-Edelbrock Intake
-3.73 gears
-BBK 65mm T-body
-K&N

Also, how do you think a stock GTI will do against an Eclipse GST convertible with the following mods? -

-Intake
-3 inch downpipe
-2 1/2 cat back all custom
-dual stage manual boost controller
-t25at 16 psi street/19 psi race
-walbro 255 fp
-ngk's
-greddy type s bov
-upper and lower I/C piping (full 19psi at 2k rpms)

Now, ask me how a 1992 Sentra SE-R with a generic cone filter and and a timing advance did against them. EDIT: and a slipping clutch...can't forget about that.

Re: 91 SE-R vs. 2003 20th Anniversary GTi

i always love seeing the old B13 SE-R's race. gotian you would think the SE-R would lose but if they go from a stop, the SE-R would have a better chance since of of the weight is in the front and they come with a LSD stock.

also carnutt's SE-R with even less mods kept up with brandon's 5.0 fox body with bolt ons. brandon is 90redgt.

Re: 91 SE-R vs. 2003 20th Anniversary GTi

It's funny carrrnuttt that you mention a slipping clutch because my cousins Sentra's clutch needs to be replace. The car has 179,000 miles on the body and has had at least 3 different motors that I know of. Before the SR20DE my cousin has in it now, was a turboed SR20DE. The car is kinda a sleeper. It's painted in WR Rally Blue and the stock rims were painted black and it has a WRX-style hood scoop. He traded his 1995 Eclipse GSX because it got sideswiped pretty bad for the Sentra and he likes and alot better.

Re: 91 SE-R vs. 2003 20th Anniversary GTi

..............more curve? isnt the corrolla like a box or something? i mean i see them all the time. they are boxes as well. the sr20de swap into the b13s and b14s are pretty common among the nissan community. it is said to be 'one of the most reliable 4 cyclinders ever'. the sr20de is pretty stout, taked to mods really well. also is good for boost. the lsd is actually pretty good as well. the sr20ve, is just a change of the head and is like doing a ls block with a vtec head. the only thing that sux about the sr20de is that the head doesnt flow too well. otherwise its a great engine if u ask me.

Re: 91 SE-R vs. 2003 20th Anniversary GTi

hey, i wasnt calling bs as I said that when I posted, I'm not saying the SER couldnt win all I said was that if you took the race more than 60 it would have a different outcome. there was no need for you guys to get defensive and push at me.

Re: 91 SE-R vs. 2003 20th Anniversary GTi

haha it looks close enough, all japanese cars from the early 90's all looks the same, the camry, the maxima, the accord etc.

i personally think a boxy B13 SE-R can be made to looks very very nice, nicer then a corolla. ( no offense rice(er) )
