Fuel Sender Adjustment

Shop manual says this is a factory or dealer operation. How can I do it at home? I have a fuel guage that reads too high. I have a 94 3.8 but the sender in the tank may be from a 92 or 93.

Nobody ever had a problem with the fuel gage? The sender unit is identical to the 94 except the outlet tube on the 94 is narrowed to accept the pulse damper. So, not sure why but the replacement sender reads about 5 gallons too much.

My 93 3800 always read high and I would run out of gas at 1/4 tank. I took the sender and fuel pump out of the tank and took apart the sender resistance coil attached to the float. The coil wire was broken at each end so I had enough to stretch it back to its contact. The contact is a copper strip so I also cleaned the strip with a pink erasure. It all works fine now and I don't run out at 1/4 tank.
