Question about my clutch

Hey everybody. Hoping I can get some help from you guys about my clutch. I have a 1994 nissan sentra and for the longets time it was so hard to push in the clutch. it was so tight.
finally last week I got a clutch adjustment and it was fine after that.easy shifting, etc. 4 days later i am on a busy street coming home...I push the clutch in and it sounded and felt like a big snap! Like a pop. I couldn't believe it. I pulled over and assumed that the clutch cable was broke.
well I can still drive the car. its almost like an automatic now. Except when I stop I have to put it in neutral and shut the car off, turn it on again to get moving in first gear. So anyways...looked at the cable...looks loose. I took it to the place that I got the clutch adjustment at today and the guy said I need a new clutch. How do I know if he is right? any insight?

Re: Question about my clutch

sounds like its busted, try getting an opinion from a shop that wont be making 700 bucks on a clutch install and see what they tell you just to be safe

Re: Question about my clutch

let me clarify...the hydraulic clutch system is very much like the brake system. there could be a problem with the clutch anyways, but instead of the clutch cable, it uses a 3 piece line from the clutch master cylinder to the transmission, with the middle piece being rubber like a brake hose. maybe the rubber hose popped...look under your hood for your brake master cylinder, and then if you have a clutch master cylinder, it will be a little tiny version of the brake master cylinder right in the rear corner next to the fender. see if its still full. otherwise id say the shop is on the right track saying its the clutch.

It's totally a clutch cable. Take it to a different shop.
