Re: 86 5.0 Gt

Rust is your most serious issue. These unit body cars were not the strongest when new, and there may be more, hidden rust in the fender wells, torque boxes underneath and in other places. Get underneath it and go through it with a fine tooth comb to make sure its structurally sound. Rust free GT's are pretty cheap, so its not worth while fixing up a rusty one.

BTW, look into affordable insurance before you buy. Most 16 year olds have a hard enough time getting insurance on a clapped-out Corolla, much less a GT.

Note: The following post was made by myself, but inadvertently appeared as Carfreak's post for 5 days. I apologise for the confusion and the correction has been made.

I'll assume you are not being funny
"fine tooth comb"is just an expression not to be taken literally. I meant for you to be very careful and thorough in your inspection for rust, to make sure you find it all, no matter how hidden it may be.

IMO a carfax report is not important for such an inexpensive car. It would be better to look at it's actual condition thoroughly.

Re: 86 5.0 Gt

I am glad you passed your test. And, unfortunately for you, I am also glad you didn't get that Stang, right now. It is far too much power to be taken lightly and a little bit of driving experience will do you good in the long run. I do not want to sound parental, but if I had my Stang when I was 16, I don't know if I'd be here right now. What I can tell you is this. When you get older, in your 20's, and have a bit of experience under your belt.....A fox body Mustang (79-95) is a great choice. These cars do have issues, but I have had my 82 GT for a while and before that I had a 86 GT too. The Ford 302's are versatile when considering mods etc. There are other options, but if your going to go Ford, get a Stang.

Re: 86 5.0 Gt

there money pits though, you'll never be satisfied and every pay-check you get will go directly into that car.
