My dang turn signal lights have went out again (1998 Firebird)
A few weeks ago...I was driving and I turned on my left turn signal and noticed that it was staying solid and wasn't blinking. After that I noticed that my left running light (the turn signals on Firebirds and Trans Ams are always on) had went out. I went out and bought a bulb and installed it and the problem was solved. About a week after that, I drove through some heavy rain and I noticed that the light had went out again...so I installed the other bulb that I had left over.
Today, I just drove through some "heavy" rain and BOTH of my turn signal lights have went out...I'm getting very tired of this...has this happened to anyone here before? What could the problem be? I'm thinking maybe the lights on the front bumper might be loose, allowing some water to enter and short out the bulbs. |

Re: My dang turn signal lights have went out again (1998 Firebird)
Ive seen water cause lights to explode, but water in itself cant cause them to short out. Corrosion inside the socket might be the culprit. Usually corrosion inside the socket shows its ugly face right after its rained and it starts to dry out. They make a lubricant to go inside the socket to protect the electrical connections. It also might be the brand of bulbs your using. Vibration could also be causing them to go out like that. Ive slammed my hood and blown out the front blinker bulbs several times.

If you have corrosion in the light sockets the easiest way to remove it is put toilet bowl cleaner in a spray can lid, put the light socket in there, dip severaly times until it quits foaming (be sure not to get this on your paint), then spray off with brake cleaner (or electrical connection cleaner), then apply grease. You can brush on the bowl cleaner, but I find it easier the dip the whole thing into it, also works on electrical connectors! Good luck and remember to make sure you have good foam seals on the light socket, or it will keep shorting out and blowing bulbs when you get water in there.

They've went out again on me for the 3rd time. I'm getting tired of this. The bulbs are kind of blue looking so I'm pretty sure that water is getting in them causing the bulbs to go out.
