radiator flush help
HI all,
anyone here ever successfully replaced their coolant? It might sound silly, but I think I didn't flush/replace the coolant correctly. Here's what I did: 1) engine cold 2) took off radiator cap 3) took off radiator plug to allow old coolant to drain 4) flushed radiator with water after all old coolant drained 5) waited for water to stop dripping from radiator 6) plug back into radiator 7) filled radiator w/new coolant via radiator cap(the reserve tank was still half full with old coolant) 8) turned on engine with radiator cap still off, hoping the coolant level would lower, but instead the new coolant started ejecting out of the open radiator cap. Thus I closed the radiator cap. 9) went into my car, noticed temp gauge was almost at red, so I turned off the engine 10) re-opened the radiator cap, and NOW the radiator appeared empty, so I filled it with extra coolant. 11) put cap back on, took it for a drive 12) on freeway and highway, the temp gauge is about 3/4 to hot can someone direct me on how to correctly change coolant on our metros. the radiator and hoses appear fine, no leaks - thanks! |

Re: radiator flush help
Sound like you are almost there. Alot of air gets into the system after you drain the coolant. I have to add coolant 2-4 times after I drain. Air gets trapped in the TB and coolant lines leading to it. Also the water pump is very high in our system. Unless you have a leak, just keep adding and eventually you will get all the air out. It can also be a pain if your thermostat does not have a bleed hole like the stock units do. Your temp is high cause you still have air in the system that needs to be flushed out.
Keep adding! |
