Just joined this great site and enjoy reading the wealth of information. I have a 95 Bon with 50000 miles, that just started to behave erroneously.
When I select the ignition switch to On, (Not start yet) the engine check lite does not come ON with all other lites displayed on the cluster. When this mode happens, and the car is started the car does not hold idle, and if it did it takes off slowly as if in second gear . When after numerous attempts to turn ignition off and then ON, at times the engine check lite illuminates on the cluster along with all other lites and when started all becomes normal. I just replaced the battery and all was fine for a while, until now I notice tha battery voltage is running low, less than 14V on indicator, at speed of 40 miles per hour. I also replaced the idle control valve still no help. I think I have a bad ground, but I need to know where all the ground are to clean and secure before starting to order costly parts. I am aware of these grounds Between door sill and pax seat, Next to Main battery by right fender, Main battery cable ground on engine block Any other grounds that I should check for. PLS advise Thanks |

Re: 1995 grounding location
It is a 1995 Bonn SSE with 3800 engine. Are there any other grounds that I should look for. Any one have an idea why the engine check light does not come On when the ignition switch is turned ON. What should I look for other than grounds.
Thanks |

Re: 1995 Bon sse grounding location
I have cleaned the Battery cables, reinstalled, engine check lite still does not come ON. I re-racked the PCM, ie, removed all three white, red and blue cables, still no help. I removed the chip from the PCM reconnected BAT cables and turned ignition ON, engine check lite came ON. I assume it should come ON as it is not detecting any faults since the brain is no longer in. Am I correct. Any insight would be appreciated.
I do not have a scanner yet, and the car is grounded, so no idea yet what the codes are. Thanks |

Re: 1995 grounding location
I had a 95 Bonny that lost engine ground, very easy to check with an ohm meter check H Frame to Engine resistance. Ohms should be 20 Ohms or less. I ran a new wire from H frame to engine and all problems went away.

Re: 1995 grounding location
Sixsmiles, thank you for the feedback.
I will install a ground wire as described. I thought of running wire between the negative cable ground point below, at the engine block to the front frame. Should I use the similar cable thickness as the battery cable or just any ground wire. One more question, is there a dedicated ground wire for the PCM on the 95 Bon SSE 3800. Thanks |

I have cleaned and secured all grounds and poistive cables, ran a ground wire between the engine block and frame, replaced the PCM, and all went to normal. Engine check lite came On once ignition switch is turned to ON. Also, always had a traction Off lite ON that would not reset. After replacement of the PCM and the secured grounds, the lite extinguished.

Re: 1995 grounding location
If your trac off light comes back, you'll need to have it scanned with an ABS capable scanner to determine if you have a hub bearing/wheel speed sensor going bad. Good job on fixing the problem you were having. You went through the proper steps without first replacing a lot of expensive parts.
