Remote Entry/Security ?

Looking for a bit of info. Facts: Just bought a 1996 Buick Park Avenue with a keyless entry remote/ security. In the glove box there is a 3 page paper that has a heading of "PASSIVE HIJACK VERSION IMPULSE 3100" I've done a google search and have come up with nothing.

Has anyone heard of this system? The origianl OEM system still appears to work. The other day I locked the door, while the door was still open and when I opened with the remote the horn started honking, like it did on my 1993 PA Ultra. Now to top it off, I had a new door key made at Wal-Mart and when I tried it on the 1996 Buick, the siren went off. Sheesh!!

I am thinking I would just like to have a keyless remote like my old 1993 Buick PA Ultra with the 3 button control. One click driver's door unlocked. Second click ALL doors unlocked. Pust the trunk, and trunk opens. Simple.

I am not that interested in the securityh bit, as I don't think my Geico insurance went down one bit because of this.

Can just the remotes from the OEM be used and foget the other security? Is there an FCC number on the remotes or a part number that I can look for for 1996 Buick PA remotes?
Many thanks!

Re: Remote Entry/Security ?

I found your alarm through Yahoo search, that's how I knew your remotes were not compatible. It may be possible that you have 2 alarm systems on your car, the 3100, and the factory. I will look this back up and post later. There are FCC numbers you can check but it's not going to get you any closer to using the 3 button remotes for your 96. 96 alarms work almost the same as the older ones except the 96 added the panic button and audio door lock, etc., sounds to me the two alarms are interferring with each other. Do you have an OEM remote for the car? Can you trace any of the 3100's wiring to the battery? Normally a red wire. If you can find the siren try going from there if you can't find any wiring. The 3100 looks like a piano, in place of the piano keys are screws, and all the wiring goes to that box, it should be under the dash somewhere. Will post about the 3100 soon.

Re: Remote Entry/Security ?

I have a remote in my drawer that I got some time back, off eBay when I was looking for remotes for my 93 Buick PA Ultra. This one has 4 buttons and has a Lock, Unlock, Trunk, and Horn button on it. It is made by GM/Lear and has a FCC ID: KOBLEAR1XT . Next to the GM/Lear is has the numbers 25695954. It also has a big "1" indented in the plastic on the back. What the number 1 stands for, I'm not sure. (maybe it belongs to a NEBRASKA football team member ).

Is this useful for this 1996 or is it for some other model Buick?
