Talking P71 Transmission '99 Crown Vic

Ok, here's another..

My non AOD trans shifts smooth, but when the card heats up, I get some hesitation when i punch it to the floor. Again, only when it's hot.
In non OD, works perfect. I can live with this, but would like to know the cause.

I have changed the fluid, no difference.
Anything that I can try before contemplating an expensive trans job ?

Any help, gladly appreciated.

Michael B.

Re: P71 Transmission '99 Crown Vic

You have the 4R70W transmission. More than likely the forward clutch pack is getting ready to go. Maybe some additive will help for a little while, but eventually it will need to be repaired. Make sure the Transmission Range/ Manual Lever Positioning sensor is adjusted properly. With car in neutral, there are 2 little marks that need to be aligned with each other. These are located on the center of sensor and the outside of the sensor housing. They should be on top of the sensor.
