I had some better ones and I'll keep looking for them but this site has some decent info.
You might also try buying a cheap manual if you want the basics.

THIS IS FOR E34 BUT THE TROUBLE SHOOTING AND SUCH WILL BE SIMILIAR, I HAVE POSTED A BETTER LINK FOR E36 IN THE NEXT REPLY.

try this out. make sure you scroll down the page. different models are located to the left of the page but I assume you have an e36.
