I have a '93 Oldsmobile Achieva 3300 with about 156,000 miles. Recently I had to change the bypass hose fittings on the motor and incorrectly assumed I would have more room to work with if I removed the coil packs and I believe to be the ignition module underneath. Right away I bolted it back on and plugged everything back in. Coil packs are definitely in the right order. I took the alternator off to get to the hose, and after I fixed that the car would turn over but wouldn't start. testing the plug wires I found I have no spark at all. Any ideas? Did I break something taking it apart. Please help!!!

Re: 93 Olds Achieva Not Getting Spark
Welcome to AF!!
Check the connection to the ignition module and the ground. Also make sure that you got the coils plugged back in correctly. That is about the only thing based on your description that could be wrong. Although if you tightened the coils too tight you may have broken the ignition module. The circuit board can crack easily if over tightened. |

Re: 93 Olds Achieva Not Getting Spark
Sounds good. I have a multimeter but I'm not really sure which wire is the ground. I know the coils were put in right because the side of the coils and ignition module have junkyard numbers on them. I did tighten the coils down pretty good though, so like you said I could've cracked the board in the module. Too bad there's no way of knowing. If you could help me out with testing the ground that would be great. If they're not too expensive I'll probably just buy a new module and see what happens. At least it would eliminate that possibility. Thanks and talk to you soon!

Re: 93 Olds Achieva Not Getting Spark
The coils are fairly cheap, the module is more exspensive.
Far as I know GM did and still does use a pink wire on the ignition to feed power to the coils via the module, you can test that to see if your getting proper voltage there. I think most Autozones can test the modules nowadays also. Best bet may to grab coils and a module from a junk yard if yours are damaged, probably will save you some money, I think the module is like $120 new. Those V6 coils and module are shared by many GM vehicles. |

Re: 93 Olds Achieva Not Getting Spark
Well, I went to autozone for starters to get the ignition module tested and, wouldn't you know it, thier connector for that type of module was broken. So I took a chance and bought a coil pack and module from the junkyard for $75. Low and behold, it fired right up. I believe I probably damaged the module by tightening the coils down too much like GTp Dad said. Thanks for all your help! A large burden has been lifted.
