01 Sunfire starting problem

Well, my car usually starts fine, however every so often it will not start. I turn the key and all I hear is a clicking noise. The starter does not turn. The starter is brand new, but that's all I know. Any help?

Re: 01 Sunfire starting problem

your starter will make a clicking noise when it tries to crank if your battery is very low, try jumpstarting it

Yep, also check the cables themselves because they can rot inside the insolation. You could also have problems with the ignition switch too. There was a recall on them I think???

Re: 01 Sunfire starting problem

the ignition recall thing (which i still havnet gotten taken care of) has to do with wires that will melt and start on fire if you try cranking it for too long, like when you go to start it, and it cranks and cranks and cranks, but doesnt turn over, it will supposedely start on fire

Re: 01 Sunfire starting problem

Yep, and also when the contacts get hot, it'll fail to start.

Re: 01 Sunfire starting problem

i took off the positive terminal bolt on the battery, and it was pretty rusty. I cleaned it off a bit, I'l have to get a new one. I'll also get the battery checked out too. Thanks for the sugg.
