Thoughts on a new setup

I am thinking about selling my current sub/amp/box combo and get new. Right now I have a Cerwin Vega Vmax sub dual 4 ohm and a power acoustik amp in a pre fabbed bandpass box. I found a buyer and I am selling it for 300. My new setup which is in question is 2 Hifonics BX12D4 subs, and a Hifonics BXi1206D, the box will probably be ported. My only question is...would this new setup be better or worse than my old one? I know Hifonics is a much more reputable name in the car audio industry than Power Acoustik. So what's everyone's opinions.

Re: Thoughts on a new setup

Hifonics amps are what they do good, there subs ive never really heard much on them. If anything i would get the hifonics amps and get a better brand of sub.

Re: Thoughts on a new setup

Ahhh. Alright. I was thinking about the hifonics because I can get the 2 subs for 120 plus shipping. They retail for 250 a piece...so I would be getting a really good deal. Any thoughts on any other subs. My budget is about 800 and the amp is about 300...so that leaves me with 500 for the subs.

Heard that Type R's are more of a head ache than anything. If someone says differently I might go with those.

Re: Thoughts on a new setup

Im installing a type-r in my girls cavalier tonight, i havent hooked it up yet so im not sure how it will be a headache. Basic dvc 4 ohm setup, not much to it. I had the kappa perfects for a while, but im pretty sure once fryman or some of the other leaders on the board get to this thread it will probably be something from ascendant, SS, Adire, or something along those lines.

Re: Thoughts on a new setup

Yeah. I hopefully they'll suggest something nice. And hopefully the Type R sounds good in your girls car. I think I might get 2 8'' RE's for my girls car.

Re: Thoughts on a new setup

Type R's get loud, no doubt about it. A single 12 will take that power from the HiFonics though. Or I suggest Ascendant Audio Arsenals, check em out www.ascendantaudio.com . Hard to beat for the price.

Re: Thoughts on a new setup

Well i hooked the type-r up and it stomped for about 30 secs and the amp went into protect, i messed with it for a while and got it to work again and it kept doing. So either the amp its hooked up to is junk which it is anyways, its a scoshe i got for free. Im waiting for my profile to get back in order, and im building her a custom box, she wants a show car (bleah). Damn cavaliers are good for gas mileage and getting in the way cause there so damn slow. But temporarily i slapped a mtx 12 i bought a ling time ago it was one of the mxs or mcs series or whatever i cant remeber the better one, Mtx needs to rethink there sub designs i had to stand on the sub to get it to mount in the box.

And yes the arsenals are what i was thinking or i was trying to remember the name. Im looking into a set with a PPI 1000.1 for my blazer. Another thing i was looking into was the soundsplinter RL-i 8"s. I wanted to do like a 10 sub wall with about 1-1.5 ported enclosures tuned at different frequencies, or seal them. I think it would kick ass in a mini-van.

Re: Thoughts on a new setup

So if I got the Type R I would be doing a single sub setup but if I did some Arsenal's I can do multiple? I'm checking the specs right now so yeah. Just one question though...what does the Rec power mean? Recommended or something else?

Re: Thoughts on a new setup

Recomended power is pretty much what the manufacturer suggests for power. With either setup you can do multiple they both can handle about 500 watts.

Manny i figured it wouldnt sound good even if its tuned a few hz apart. I dont know i think the sealed wall from hell would be cool, that and those little 8"s look like they have the power to stomp.

Re: Thoughts on a new setup

What? the Rl-i's? yes they do have potential. An I would not feed a type R 500w or anywhere around that, just do a single sub setup if you dont have enough power. Type R will take 1k-1500 just fine. WHAT DOES YOUR FONTSTAGE CONSIST OF?
