1996 Park Ave - Problem w/ Power Seat, Interior lights
My 1996 Park Avenue has treated me well over the years, but I recently had a problem that I can't seem to figure out. The power adjustments to the driver's seat no longer work, and the interior lights aren't turning on via the lighting slider on the panel or the buttons.
The odd part is that the powered front passenger seat works fine. So far I've swapped all the fuses marked for the interior lights. The power seat has a large fuse, which, when removed, knocks out the passenger power seat controls as expected. When I press the seat tilt button on the side of the driver's seat, I hear a faint clicking, but nothing happens. The controls on the driver door are also dead. The problem occured soon after I was trying to grab a small item that had rolled under the seat. I looked at the cables and I don't see anything disconnected. I'm hoping someone knows a little more about the wiring that could also explain how this could affect the interior lights. If I'm lucky, maybe there is a fuse under the seat that I need to replace? Any help is appreciated. |

When you reached under the seat you probably scared away the little troll that is under there that moves the seat around. He probably left in such a hurry that he forgot to plug back in the interior lights control on his way out.

Park Aves usually have two sets of fuse boxes. One under the hood, and one under the rear seat. Have you checked both to chase down your fuses.

I thought there was a second set of fuses deep behind the glove box, but I didn't know about any under the rear seat. That sounds promising and I want to check it out. Any tips on which side of th seat they are on, and how I can get to them with the least amount of damage? |

I think, to get the rear seat off when you are in the car facing the trunk. Push on both sides of the rear seat down by the bottom towards the trunk, and you should hear it click out in both places. You should then be able to lift the seat up and out. There should be a fuse box under that. At least there was in my older buick. If that does not help, then I would go to the junk yard and find an early 90,s park ave and get the seat switch out that you need. The actual switch may be just burnt out. You can also pull your switch out and check it with a test light to see if it is good. I'm not shure how to pull the the drivers side switch out, but when all else fails you can tinker with junk yard cars to see. At least then your not breaking your own stuff. Hope that helps.
