okokok... Roll Cage?

Does anyone make roll cages that don't eat up the entire interior of your car / can leave back seats in etc?

Thinking of maybe doing a little racing, but from what I understand about the rules, I will need a roll cage and scattershield.

(Anyone know where the rules are posted for NHRA tracks, so I can see if I even want to go there?)

Re: okokok... Roll Cage?

I wish I could maturely share my opinion on the NHRA requirement for roll cages (if your quicker than a certain time frame) but anyone that had a discussion with me about what a Roll cage does to the daily driving ability of your vehicle as well as the interior appearance will tell you I would soon get vulgar. So I suggest you get yourself kicked out of a few tracks.

Re: okokok... Roll Cage?

Yeah but can I get away with the 8 point like this...

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

And will that really "F" it up that bad for drivability??? If it's going to totally ruin my interior then I'll probably not do it.

Also do you have to have a scattershield and drive shaft safety loop, fire extinguisher, etc...

And yes, thinking about being serious, heh. Just realized that Cecil County (MD) drag strip is a LOT closer than I thought. Also read an article on bracket racing that piqued my interest, although it was poorly written and I didn't understand all THAT much. I got really interested when I saw the entry fees are $50 and there's a $1200 pot to be won.

Re: okokok... Roll Cage?

if you run slicks you have to have a drive shaft safetly loop but with street tires you don't

Re: okokok... Roll Cage?

shit unless you run faster than 11's i dont think you need anything more than a 6-point, but in my opinion oyu need a 14-71 supercharged 737, and a full pro mod cage... LOL

Re: okokok... Roll Cage?

First off make a few baseline runs to see the times you're running, from there decide what you need. No sense putting one in and then finding out you run 12.5's and don't need it yet. What do you mean by a scattershield? And a driveshaft loop is always a good thing to have, and it's not liek it's a huge deal so I'd put one on anyway.

I hear good things about Cecil, but unless you have prior experiance don't get into money brackets just yet... you need to know your car REALLY well, and if you're against experianced bracket racers they're playing with hundreths, even thousandths of a second. Just go on test and tune, and street nights.

Re: okokok... Roll Cage?

Well, I found out from a roll cage manufacturer, that if the car is driven street at least SOME of the time, then you should NOT put a cage in it. The bars will do more damage than good in the event of a crash unless you are wearing a full harness and helmet.

So I will NOT be putting in a cage.

I also will not be fucking my car up to suit track officials at the expense of what I want it to be / look like.

So yeah, I'm going to put the drive shaft safety loop on, and I may put a harness in it (or at least do the 3 point belt conversion) and other stuff, but as far as anything that will seriously alter the interior... well, she's a street car and maybe that's where she belongs.

(Edit: can you put in a harness without putting in a cage or bar?)
