Re: Honda Cb750 racer Japanese version 1/6

You've made a nice start but the Tamiya kit is rather inaccurate as they were really lazy on this one.

The tank should be fatter and more radiused and the bike ran with alluminium W section rims, which are far different to the stock ones that they couldn't be bothered to change. The racer also has a far larger rear drum than stock. I've got as far as rebuilding the rims and drum but not much further yet.

I'm drawn to the cooling fins of the engine, gotta stop looking. How's the chrome plating on this kit?

Looks cool! The detail on that model is wonderful and it seems to really give the feeling of the real bike.

Re: Honda Cb750 racer Japanese version 1/6

it l,ooks like this thread somehow died, just at the point where I want some clarification. I did finish the kit, in the Daytona version and I spent lots of time getting a nice coat of paint on the cowling, (handpainted Tamiya X34, a bit too light probably but a nice colour). Then the big deception came when I had to apply the decals which look nice an glossy on the sheet, but once in the water they break into several pieces. I ended up sort of moving all the loose parts tight to each other, but on the curvaceous section where the number is located, the decals cracked and I had to fill the cracks with white paint. The decals did react positively to microset, but the damage had already been done. Looks OK from a distance, but should not happen with decals from a reissued kit. Furthermore there is also no white decal for the number on the front of the cowling....
This was a great disappointment as otherwise the kit was a nice one to build. (my first big scale kit) but indeed probably not perfectly resembling the actual racing machine..

Has anybody had similar experiences, and if so is there a way to ask Tamiya for a proper set of decals?

Re: Honda Cb750 racer Japanese version 1/6

Henk,

It sounds like you may have an old original kit if the decals have broken up. You're in luck though because Tamiya have re-released this kit in the last couple of years so they should have stocks of new decals, and they're probably reprinted by Cartograph and far superior than the originals (this was the case with my replacement CBR1100 decals)

Try ordering through your national Tamiya importer first - I'm guessing you're in Belgium, so I don't have a contact number. The UK supplier has ordered for me before but I've has to wait up to 8 weeks for parts.

You could also try these guys:

or these:

Good luck!

well, I bought the kit from HLJ when it was reissued in 2002 or 2003, can't remember exactly but it is a re-issue, which is exactly the reason why I was so surprised to see the decals virtually disintegrate...(and I am in Holland)

I'll try HLJ again
