Third Brake Light

I have a 2000 Blazer 4dr. A few bulbs in my third brake light have gone out, how do I remove it to change my broken bulbs? Thanks.

LEDs so whole light bar replaced - unless someone has soldered ones in out there.

Re: Third Brake Light

You have to replace the whole bar, you can't replace individual LEDs.

Re: Third Brake Light

Maybe the 2000 is different, but I pulled my 98 apart over dinner, cause I also have two blown LED's. Two screws in the top pop out and then the ends pull off and the circuit board slides out. Presumably you could solder in new LED's if you could find the right replacements, but all I can tell you so far is that they're clear lensed LED's arranged in 5 arrays of 6 parallel diodes.

Re: Third Brake Light

$125 bucks!! Wow! Okay, I'm not going to get around to this for a while, so if you really want those LED's replaced pop off the unit and (with the brake pedal depressed) measure the voltage across any one LED. It should be around 2.7 volts. Then remove the burned out diodes and take them to your friendly neighborhood electronics supply store and get them to match it up with one that will handle whatever that voltage you measured was. Solder them back in (observing proper polarity) and you've fixed it for $1-2/LED.
