Automatic transmission troubles

Today i drove down to the wal mart near my house go in, do my business, and come back out. I start my car up, put my foot on the break, and the button on the shifter wont engage. So i couldnt get it out of park. I just fucked around with it for a good 10 minutes and happened to get the lock released and shifted into drive and took my 240 home.

As soon as i got home i parked in my usual spot, and decided to give it another shot to see if it was just a freak occurance. Same thing happend again. Immediately i started doing some research about automatic transmissions to see what i could dig up. But that was a pain and i couldnt come up with much.

I have a semi-idea of what it could be, but im not entirely too sure. From what i dug up im assuming its the actuator at the base of the steering column. Or is there a cable that releases that lock on the shifter?

Thanks,
Josh

Re: Automatic transmission troubles

Ahhh, big sigh of relief. I got it fixed. Turns out the actuator was hanging up for some odd reason. A touch of wd-40 and it works like new again.

Re: Automatic transmission troubles

If you ever have time, you can take the shifter assembly apart and clean it. The WD40 is only a temp fix. You might have dirt and all kinds of gunk that has built up over the years.
