no power 98 voyager

I have a 98 voyager that has a sever loss of power for example I cant get it above 50 going up a slight incline. Will a basic tune up help (plugs wires cap rotor) what else should I check replace???? i dosent fill like it is missing . I really need some help with this one I am thinking of getting rid of it and buying a new car which I really dont want to do because I love not having a car payment. Thought maybe changing to trans fluid would help.

By the way it is the 3.0 and only has 90k on it Thanks for any help

tuneup wouldn't hurt,when was the last one??Don't forget to clean the throttle body too, and maybe check the cat.converter it could be plugging up.

have it checked for codes in the computer. A bad speed sensor for example will make it shift strange and seem like it is totally gutless. My father came back from a short trip one time and told me he could barely keep up with traffic and couldn't pass anyone. I used the key on key off method and it came up with a code 15, faulty speed sensor. Changed the sensor and it was like new (it was a 92 caravan with 3.3) It could also be the cat being blocked. To test for that , hook up a vacum gauge to a vacum source, start the engine and slowly bring the rpm up to about 2000 watch the gauge while you let the throttle snap back to idle, the vacum should drop back rapidly. If it lingers for several seconds , there is a good chance the cat converter is plugged up. Let us know if you find a code.

How does the key on key off work on a 98 voyager. I had an Acclaim years ago and did it all the time but have tried a few times in my voyager and can;t get it to work. Thanks!

Does it feel sluggish at all times? if so you amy want to check your transsmission fluid level. When it gets low enough, you will lose some power.

Great Post! I'd buy ya a beer for the $$ you saved me. I have a 2002 Grand Caravan and the resistor is right behind the glove box. It took me 3 minutes to change and 25 minutes to put the rest of the dash back together that I needlessly took apart.

If the power loss is that severe it sounds like the timing belt has slipped a tooth . I would get the timing checked out . If the timing belt is shot you are looking at maybe $300 to get it changed..
