96 has no spark at coil

Hello my 96 4 liter just would start, i took off the coil wire and got no spark then i unpluged the wire going to the coil and tested it by putting my tester in each hole and got no power. Could there be a wire brokin at the alt. or a breaker. thanks

Re: 96 has no spark at coil

if the crank shaft sensor or cam shaft sensor if faulty, the computer will not send any power to the coil, fuel pump etc. I don't know if you can retrieve your own trouble codes from the computer or not with the 96, but you can try it and let us know what codes you come up with. Put in the key and turn the ignition on (dash lights on but engine not running) then off then on then off and finally on and leave it there. The check engine light will start to flash and pause then flash ect. click on this link for more instructions, if you have any problems , let me know.
