so...what do bad carrier bearings look like? (pics)
Had my car up on the lift the other day, and i noticed i could wiggle my driveshaft around. From just sitting there, i can push the driveshaft upwards in the carrier bearings almost 1/2 inch, whitch seems like way to much play to me, but i know very little about this. some pics below.
At rest ![]() ...and when im pushing up on it... ![]() At rest ![]() ...and when im push up on it... ![]() if they are indeed bad as i suspect, anyone know about what theyre gonna cost me? and is it worth it to just get bearings? Or should i just do a the whole driveshaft? thanks again guys |

I would suspect that is a bit too much play as well, but I'm not 100% sure. I do know it isn't worth fixing. Just go with CF driveshaft.

Re: so...what do bad carrier bearings look like? (pics)
Ok, I hit up a search on 3si for you, because I'm bored.
Found some good stuff. Symptoms: http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread....arrier+bearing Carrier bearing replacement instructions: http://www.penguinhosting.net/~bigma...riveshaft.html http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=239923 if you are desperate for a temp fix. The carrier bearings are $60-65 each at Norco 951-735-7100 (not sure if you need to mention a 3si discount, but if they quote you higher, I'd mention it) So yeah, ignore my first response, that is too much movement, and the carrier bearings can be replaced cheaply, however if it's the u-joints, they are not serviceable and a CF driveshaft is probably the better option. So figure out which is the problem. I'll add it to the FAQ. Hope it helps.
