swapping 1994 l3 into 1997 chasis

Hi to all: I am new to this forum, so plz forgive me if this topic has been discussed a million of times before. Any here is my question: Can I put a 1995, or earlier l3 engine into my 1997 metro? I have noticed that there are several engines available for the 1995 or earlier models, or jdm does not appear to have listing for 1997 applications. Also, the pre 1995 engines seem to be cheaper.

If unable to swap the 1995 engine into 1997 body, I was wondering what the difference is between the applications.

Thank you very much for any input

Re: swapping 1994 l3 into 1997 chasis

the 96 up 1.0 and 1.3 engnes has a crank angle sensor on the front of the engine. to put older motor into newer chassis you need to swap the oil pump and crank sensor out of a newer motor onto the older one. intake and most sensors will have to be swapped also
