I'm selling my 1998 Firebird...

Well, I don't get my dad's WS6 until after I graduate college...that's about 3 and 3/4 years from now and I'm impatient so I've decided to sell my car and get a regular T/A. I want an LS1 to help me keep up with my dad...

How much money would it cost to swap out my 3.8 for a LS1. I'm guessing it's going to be more than it would cost to trade mine in for a Trans Am.

I've had my car up for sale for 2 weeks and I've had a lot of lookers and callers, and had 3 people test drive it but nobody offer the cash I'm asking so far.

Here's the specs:

1998 Firebird (Candy Apple Red)
3800 Series II V6
91,000 miles
$1,000+ JL Audio sound system
NEW Eagle One Tires
Flowmaster Exhaust
I've spent a couple thousand maintaining the car when parts go bad on it...The car is in excellent condition and has no problems at all.

I've been asking $7,999...what do you recommend I do?

Re: I'm selling my 1998 Firebird...

with 91k miles on it being a 98 I really dont think you will get that for it. Hee is the link to kelly blue book. http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.u...;;ucp;&9;PO;C1
I did a quick one but do not know what all your car has. see if you get the same price as me...
All that extra stuff people are not going to care about, unless you get some kid that wants to buy who has the cash, they will not be able to get a loan for the full price your asking if the car is only work $5500...

Re: I'm selling my 1998 Firebird...

Good luck on the sale.

Swapping in the LS1 is much more work than it would seem. Computer, k-member, tranny, motor. Adds up quick, plus it is a lot of work.
The plus is you can do what you want to the motor before it goes in.

I'm going to try and sell it for $7,000

For the condition it is in and with the sound system, I believe it to be worth the price...

Just so you know, modifications normally lower a cars value.

Mine is worth more stock than it is now.

Re: I'm selling my 1998 Firebird...

If your going to stick to $7000 then you have to be really patient about the selling. Like erdal said if its at sale for 7k the buyer will ask you to lower it down to posibbly 6k.
When i bought my car, the guy was asking $7800 and i brought him down to $6700 because i had cash money. Mine had only 60k that time and was in good condition but needed new tires which i still havent replaced. Tires are bald now with the worst traction ever on the road.
But wat im sayin is that stay at 7500 and u will end up sellin it for 7000 or 6700. When some1 asks u for negotiation, tell them that you are up for it. Hope this helps.

Well if you really want my then here it is.. I personally think you should just stick with what you've got. Why sell a perfectly good car to buy another one you would rather have, when you're already going to be getting that car in a few years anyway?? Just doesn't make too much sense to me. I don't see whats wrong with what you have now, especially for a high school or college student

keep it! its sweet, ur gonna regret selling it..unless you CAN get 7K for it, then that might be good..since thats almost a straight trade for a LS1..

as he said he is impatient and he wants that thing.. he sees comments all over that those v8s are fastas.. kickass.. etc. and this makes him feel bad cuz he drives a v6 and he wants to be part of v8 team and wanna go with that. cars are nothing but trouble.. if you wanna sell your car dont think about selling for 7k, go lower than that.. also l believe you cant afford low mileage clean LS1. and l you will have to get high mileage.. be careful.. dont buy trouble.

As President Woodrow T. Wilson once said:
"All things come to him who waits - provided he knows what he is waiting for."

I'm a firm believer and follower of that quote. So what if you don't have the car you would like. But if you know you will soon have the car you want, I believe that the wait for it will be a bigger reward in itself. Rather than just selling your Firebird and buying a Trans Am to satisfy that urge. Especially since you will be getting that Trans Am in 3 years, just doesnt make any sense to not wait.

I mean heck, I'd love to sell my Firebird and buy a Trans Am right now. But I know at this point in my life, and until I'm more financially stable to pay off a Trans Am, that it would be smarter to stick with what I've got. Especially since I have no payments on my car, and a reasonably low insurance. With just starting college and having to pay for it all myself, I think it would be wiser to stick with what I've got, and try to do small things to it here and there to suite my urges for wanting more power. Just something to take into consideration. But I mean hey, if you can easily pay for a Trans Am after you sell you car and won't have to pay alot for college, then more power to ya man.

Re: I'm selling my 1998 Firebird...

You will be more satisfied and it will be worth more to you if you wait until you graduate to get a T/A. Its like something your working towards getting. Just selling your car and buying a T/A isnt as satisfying as earning one as a college graduation present. Stick with V6 for now but thats my opinion. Id also love to get a T/A but all the T/A around me have over 70k miles or arent the 4th gen birds..i personally dont like the look of 3rd gen birds. Im happy with what i have. A beautiful car with 30k miles that i got and it only had 1 owner..i couldnt be happier. With me being 17(18 in a few days) my insurance is sky high on this car and i couldnt even imagine it with a V8! and luckily my parents are nice enough to pay my insurance as long as im on time with the monthyl payments for my car. Just my 2 cents!
