The hell is speed trap?
I'm hearing about cars on the dragstrip reaching speed trap and that it seriously cramps their time. What is speed trap?

speed trap is the end of the 1/4 mile. That is where the final speed is calculated for the 1/4 mile run.
In general, its a good idea to get through the speed trap  What you might have overheard, was racers talking about their speed through the speed trap. Much debate can be generated by comparing 1/4 mile time vs speed.

They could also be bracket racers who overshot their time.
