98 plymouth Grand voyager rough shifting after replacing speed sensors
We have a new problem with our voyager. Original problem was the speedometer quit and engine went into limp mode (2nd gear). Kept shorting out a fuse. Dealer said it was a wiring problem and to replace the transmission control module but when he "wiggled some wires" everything went back to normal, so I drove it home. About 2 weeks later, it did the same thing. My husband replaced the TCM with one from a junkyard and that fixed the speedometer/limp mode, but now it shifts really rough.
The computer codes were 500 and 1698. Based on other info from other forums, we replaced the input and output speed sensor, but it's still rough shifting. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I don't know if the computer codes still read the same thing. It's got high miles and I'd just like to fix it to drive until I can sell it so I don't want to go back to the dealer. |

Re: 98 plymouth Grand voyager rough shifting after replacing speed sensors
If the shop wiggled some wires and it went back to normal, did you ever fix the cause of maybe broken, loose wires.and the TCM has to be from the same model to work correctly IIRC. And lastly the tranny is constantly learning the shift patterns its possible that the shift pattern from the old tranny(the one that the TCM came from)is still there.Try disconnecting the battery for 15 min to reset everything, and see if any different.

Re: 98 plymouth Grand voyager rough shifting after replacing speed sensors
We put the old TCM back in and for the moment it's working fine. The ABS light is on but has been on since we bought the van 3 years ago. I'll drive it for a couple weeks and see if it breaks again. If it does, I'd better learn how to reinstall the TCM myself since that seems to be where the wires need to be wiggled;-)
