96 Cierra tranny whines
I have a 96 Cierra with 160k miles on her. Runs fine, and shifts fine, but has a slight whine coming from the tranny for the last 15k miles. It upshifts, downshifts as it should, and there is no slipping. Only makes the noise in first and second gear. I serviced the tranny about 5k miles ago, and the fluid at that time did not appear burnt or smell bad, and still looks good on the dipstick. Do some of these tranny's make noise for a long time?
I can only hear it with the windows down, so it is not that loud. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks Mike |

Re: 96 Cierra tranny whines
Generally a whine usually indicates that the front pump is starting to go bad. Try a can of sea foam transmission additive or a bottle of lube gard. Both are excellent and can quiet the transmission. A whine can go for many miles without any major issues however, the transmission can also fail if the pump goes completely. Don't let anyone talk you into a flush or it could destroy the transmission with that high number of miles.
