jetta 1.8 '92

god day: I've a '92 4 cyl. 1.8 engine jetta. My question is this engine a non-interference or interference engine? the reason I'm asking is because I tried to replace the timing belt and messed up the timing.

Thank you.

According to this site, you have an interference engine. Hopefully, you didn't get any valves bent.

Re: jetta 1.8 '92

Good day,

Thanks for your quick response to my question. I contacted the dealer and the service tech told that 92 Jetta's with 1.8L 8 valve engines are non-interference. But now a have a new problem that I'll post in a new thread. Thanks again.

Re: jetta 1.8 '92

I have a 91 with the cylinder head sitting on my work bench. There is a slight hemisphere where the valves are on the head, but I expect the valves go lower than the indention. I was told by a mechanic in town that it IS an interference engine. It all depends on how far the valves go down and how far the timing was off.
