Help needed starting Golf IV

Hi
I'v got this 1.9 TDI from '98, that will not start.
I turn the key, and it tryes to start the engine, but it never starts, it keep trying, when I hold the key turned, and nothing.
Any advice or something would be good.

have u checked the coil - perhaps test for spark first, A coilpack stuffed me around last week - i had to have the car towwed - it was swinging but just refused to start

WTF Test for spark on a TDI ???? somehow don't think that is possible

there might be air in the fuel lines. Replace the fuel filter and fill it with good diesel fuel. After replacing the fuel filter see if it starts. Also if it doesnt have someone loosen the 19mm nut on the 1st fuel injector while cranking, this will remove the air from the fuel lines.
