Oil Pan Gasket Replace

Just as the title states. 97 GP GT 3.8 113,000. What's a reasonable cost to replace the oil pan gasket? I know it's a PITA. So far I have not found any independant mechanics around here that will touch it. Dealer quoted me 630.00 plus tax. Rape? Or about right.... Thanks in advance.

Re: Oil Pan Gasket Replace

Unfortunately this is an expensive repair due to the time involved. You basically have to pull the engine out of the cradle to get to the gasket. I have never had one done but this sounds reasonable. Other members may have a different opinion. Of course labor rates vary by region and dealership. Check with other GM dealers. Maybe you can get a better price.

Re: Oil Pan Gasket Replace

Oil leak on the 95 Grand Am wasn't the oil pan gasket, it came from the oil sensor on top of the engine thru the electrical connection, very hard to find leak, cost only $6.00.
