Need help with a part number

Hi all. I have a Avalanche 1500 4x4 5.3l. I know this is the Silverado forum, but there is nobody in the Avalanche forum, and nobody ever replies to posts, so I thought I'd try my luck in here.

I want to replace the chrome bar that runs across the front of the truck, the piece that has the big bowtie on it. I just want to do a direct replacement. Anybody know this part number? Mine is kind of messed up and tarnished where water drips off of the bug/wind deflector. I tried a good quality chrome polish with no luck. Directly behind this piece is the "grill", kind of a waffle-pattern looking piece that sits in front of the radiator, sort of a decorative/protective piece. Mine is black, but I saw a picture somewhere in here where somebody had a chrome one. My truck is black, and a chrome grill with new chrome "bow-tie bar" would look sa-weet. Does anybody know if these Silvy parts and Avalanche parts are interchangable? Anybody have any idea on cost or part numbers, or even where to shop? I used to go to GM Partsdirect.com. Good prices, but you almost need to have the part number up front in order to find anything. If anybody knows a good website where I can find part numbers, that would be awesome.

I appreciate any help you all could provide. Thanks!!

Re: Need help with a part number

The 'chrome bar' and the 'waffle-pattern' (nice terms bro ) are all one piece, composing the grille.

The chrome waffle pattern you refer to is known as a billet grille, and to achieve this, there are two options:

1. Get inserts that fit over factory grille over the waffle-pattern (did I mention that term rocks?).

2. Aftermarket replacement billet grille for the whole unit.

Given that you want to replace your grille anyway, I'd go with the latter option, just search google and ebay for billet grille. I'd expect you're looking at around $130-$200 ballpark for this.

If you can't get the part number for the stock grille from any other source, get your VIN and call your local dealer's parts department. They can help you. No idea what they'll want for one, but probably a lot, like every other GM part.. .

BTW, for future reference, to remove the grille just use a screwdriver to pop the push pins out of the black trim piece at the front of the truck (right above the headlights), remove the top row of headlights, and then pop the clips out. Little fuzzy on that last part, haven't had mine off since I installed a brush gaurd about 2.5 years ago.

Re: Need help with a part number

I appreciate the reply. I did a search for grilles on a couple of different engines, and I did see some "billet" grilles. They had some sweet looking ones, but they all had "horizontal runners", not my beloved "waffle pattern". I gotta keep my waffles, I just want them to be chrome. Chrome Waffles ba-bay! My current waffles are black, which is OK, but I somebody one here has some chrome ones. I will try to find that person and email them. Thanks for the info on how to get grille off. I was hoping to not have to remove headlights.
