Question Accent acceleration problem

I have a accent MVI coupe (1999). Can anyone help me with this problem.
When i accelerate in 3/4/5 gear the revs start to go up but the car doesnt accelerate.
I was thinking that it maybe because i have my foot resting on the clutch and its in need of a new clutch (which it is). Could that be the answer?
thanks guys
