getting harder to start-wtf?

I have only had my blazer for 6 months. When I got it, it was real easy to start. I only had to turn the key for a second or two. Now I have to turn and hold it for about 5 or 6 seconds, and if I let go too early, it sputters and then catches and runs fine. Is this normal with blazers, or should I have something checked out, or is it something I can do myself. It's a 2000 LT 4-door 4.3L vortex engine. I have to replace the fuel pump because the sending unit is making my gauge go nuts when I'm under half a tank. Could that be the problem? Also sometimes when I give it gas when a light turns green, sometimes it will accelerate really good with no problem, and then sometimes it will accelerate almost like it's struggling to get up to speed. When it gets up to about 30, it is just fine. Could I need an air filter or a fuel filter, or maybe it's the fuel pump again? I am learning more and more each day about my blazer. This website is helping me alot.

Re: getting harder to start-wtf?

Hey Cavy,
If you hav'nt changed the fuel or air filters recently, then change them out, and clean your MAF sensor with brake cleaner.
When was the last full tune up on the truck. AC Delco plat plugs gapped @ .060, Cap, Rotor, Spark plug Wires, PCV Valve

Here's a little tip, when you install the new fuel filter, coat the threads with Anti-seize goop.
Keep us posted on your results

Re: getting harder to start-wtf?

Only way to know is check the fuel pressure. Many posts on this so again 58-60psi required for starting (key on engine off) and 54 running. A few psi lower and the gas injected drops like 25% and at start it has to be richer (more gas ie pressure) especially when engine is colder.
