fuel filter
I went to Autozone to buy a fuel filter for my Mazda Protege. They told me that it's combined with the fuel pump.
What should I do if I want to change the filter? Appreciate for any replies. Have a nice day! |

Re: fuel filter
Hi Towncar,
You recognized me even when I am here. Good memory! Now I'm asking question about fuel filter for my other car, Mazda Protege. Quote:

Re: fuel filter
My 1999 Protege.
Mazda3 is the redesigned Protege. That's a very reliable car. My car has been used for 8 years with more than 100,000 miles. Open the hood you will find everything is like new, without one drop of oil leak. Probably I will need to have the fuel pumped change if I want to get a new filter. Quote:

Check out this Online Service Manual... Refers to my 2006 3, I believe it's actually a 2005 manual though Details the Fuel Pump assy.http://www.midwestcarclub.com/mazda/manual/

Re: fuel filter
I have a Protege 5 shop manual. The filter is installed on the fuel pump. The maintenance schedule doesn't ever call for a fuel filter change unless you live in Chile where it should be replaced every 2 years or 40 km. You should be able to buy the filter separately from a Mazda dealer. It has two filters, a high pressure and a low pressure filters.

Re: fuel filter
Buy the filter from your local mazda dealer. You can access your fuel pump
by removing your back seat and there will be an access panel. Disconnect the wiring harness and the fuel line(quick connects I think) and unscrew 10+ phillip screws holding it in. After that you can pull the pump out, becareful not to damage the fuel level sensor/float. Make sure you reassemble everything back on. I think there is a c clip and a rubber mount/issolator that you have to remove before getting the filter off. Make sure everything is back on or else the fuel pump will back out of it's housing and the car will not run. |
