Grumpy new Pro Comp 31/10.50 owner

1997 4 door Ls
As some of you may know i did a 2" body lift and order 31/10.50/15 pro comp x-terrian. I got the tires today and loooove them. I caint wait to get them on. I like the stock wheels and i see alot of ppl that have 31.10.50 on the stock wheel. I went to 7 places no one will put them on. I wasnt happy. They said it would rub and they wont do it. I got the one place to put one tire on ( it looked SICK). And the only place it was really close was the frame rail behind the front tire. and then some of them said that since i putting a 10.50 on a stock wheel im going to have terrible control of the car. the side wall will be rolling all over the place and i need to get 9" wide rims. But i thought the ZR2 is the same size wheel as mine and they come from factory w/ 31/10.50/15.

I just order a 2" shackle and torsion bar lift( i know torsion lifts are bad and i will wear out the front end i was only gonna go an inch in the front) That probly still wont fix my rubbing, If i do have some at all what are some options. Wheel spacers, Adding some shims to the wheel lock to prevnt the tire from getting to the frame? Also i most likly i will need fender flairs. I had trouble find a nice set for a four door all i saw was 2 doors.

need some help again guys, U havent let me down yet

Re: Grumpy new Pro Comp 31/10.50 owner

I think that you should be fine with what you have. They say that that sized tire will fit with some rubbing, but a 3" will easily clear.

Absolutly worst case senerio a sledge hammer on the places that it rubs will quickly solve the problem (as long as it isn't on the frame)

I have to pound my Blazer a lot more than you'll ever have to pound yours in a few days.

Your rims are fine for 10.5" tires. Some tire stores are basicly "know it alls" or a better term is "know it wrongs"

I'm really looking forward to seeing your pictures.

edit, Did your body lift come with bumper re-locating brackets? Wish that mine did.

haha Yes i like ur terms. and for the record, the one place that told me 31/10.50 arnt on zr2 was always trusty Bow Tie Stealership. mine touch spot is on the frame, im not gonna mess with that Im gonna take the tires off my blazer and take them a shop and have them do it and see how bad they really do rub.i know they will and i wanna do what i can do not have it. still dont know what the best idea is

Mine did come with front bumber risers. the back i had to drill the brakets and a hole for the spare tire drop. Kinda of a pain esp w/o the right drill bits but i got it done. For sure ill have some pics i took alot of before and after w/ the body lift. i was gonna to a How-To body lift, but once i got started i didnt wanna stop and take pics. ill get the tires on and take some pics then when i get the torsion/shackle.

Re: Grumpy new Pro Comp 31/10.50 owner

I'm looking forward to seeing the pic's

I'm actually scraping the independant front end in the next few days and putting on a 1/2 ton solid axle. I wish that I knew how tall it'll be standing when I'm done everything. Although the solid axle won't be finished for a month or longer, since I'm doing a 6.2L Diesel engine swap at the same time. The new motor and transmission are ready to go in now (Well actually re-built transmission and new bearings and seals in the motor(not yet painted))

Yea i saw that in one of your post thats a heck of a project. thats WAY out of the box I like things that most ppl dont do and a 6.2 diesel i would say is one of them haha. As well id like to see that when its done. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/593233 i found that a lil bit ago it looks insane with that front axel swap his last page is a MONSTER blazer. I dont mind the IFS but if i had a choice id rather have a solid front axel. less to go wrong = less money to spend

Re: Grumpy new Pro Comp 31/10.50 owner

I withdraw my grumpy owner state ment and back it up with this.
.

Stock

2" body

31's next to the spare

and well the reason for getting them. is to get a truck that looks like

And for those who think it wont get dirty..................... that lasted about..... 5 min

the tires are AWESOME gave me about an 1" of ground clearence. they have SICK low speed hum, they handle great. I went though the deepest mud hole there and stoped in it and just drove stright out of it. no wheel spin. Best of all NO TIRE RUB. I just order wheel spacer and i dont even need them so what do u guys think?????????

Re: Grumpy new Pro Comp 31/10.50 owner

205/70r/15 was the stocker

i actully did stop at the one chevy stealership to get some more of those black lug covers and the one guy came out and was like wow that looks nice i was like yea. i really wish i could have put those 31's on the stock rim.... MAN would that look good (i was beign VERY sarcastic) and i left about 10lbs of mud behind to from it falling off the under carrige. I still have 2" shackles and tosrion keys coming to that should get me up there a lil higher. I need to get longer axle studs so i can saftly put on the 3MM wheel spacer.

Very Nice!

It definetly looks like a 4x4 now, should come stock like that.

Where did you get them and what price? Im in the market like I needed them yesterday.

Has anyone had 31x10.5 R15's on their stock 4x4 1st gen without a lift? what rub do they have? minor or major?

Looked around and this was the best price http://www.4wheelonline.com/ got them a lil under 600 and they were here in 3 busniess days. I wanted to make a 4door zr2, that would put it to shame under a budget. I wanted to make somthing that would stand out under a grand and i did tires 600, body lift 200- torsion key/shackle- 200(should be on next week).

I saw a 1990 body style (i guess a 1st gen s-10 blazer) with 31's w/ a body lift and it looked like he could get away w/o the lift. But thats was just sitting there it may rub when u turn the wheel

Thanks guy im glad you approve.

Sorry it won't work.

235-75-15 are around 29" and if you look at them there's about 1" of clearance between the tires and the fender corners.
So 31" tires will just touch the corners without even moving anywhere.

However 30 x 9.5" tires will fit without any lift.

My first gen has a 3" lift and as you can see there's now lots of room for me to fit 31" tires on now.

It only took me about a 1/2 day for the body lift and that was with 1 rusted on bolt.

Sorry I won't put bigger tires on until I finish the suspension work and try someones to see how they efect the new drivetrain. (A friend of mine is loaning me his 33" tires on his 6 lug rims to match my new 1/2 ton axles)

235's are stock size on mine. Ive been told that the 30's will not rub, but 31's will, yet dont know where it will rub, on lock to lock or just normal driving. O dont have a direct side shot of my Blazer but this is as close as it gets right now.

Does that spare tire carrier rattle? I had to take mine off because I can't find the bushing for it anywhere.

Yes the spare tire carrier does rattle a little. It's really not too bad as long as you oil it from time to time.

Truth is I'm selling it, just because I don't want the weight of a big tire hanging off the body. I'll probably get something outunted on the rear bumper when I'm ready to make the bumper up.
