2000 z71 5.3 replacement alternator

My alternator is going out and I need to replace it. I believe the current OEM is 105amp, but I have seen a 200amp for the same price. I was wondering if there are any plus's or minus's in going with a higher amp alternator.

I'm guessing this could affect my fuel economy???

Higher amp would presumably draw more hp, hurting fuel economy and power, though the change in power may be negligible. There is not any pro unless you are running some SERIOUS aftermarket equipment.

Likely a negligeable effect on economy, but why would you up it unless you have some major stereo equipment. Stick stock in my opinion.

Re: 2000 z71 5.3 replacement alternator

I don't think the alternator will have any real impact on your fuel economy...
the only impact I know in jumping to a 200Amp Alt would be the need to most likely increase the diameter of the wiring from the Alt to the Battery and to the junction block if it has one...

Unless you have some really big electric loads I would just run the 100 AMP
