Re: Help! ac compressor

Hmm....$288 plus shipping at gmpartsdirect.com for the whole air compressor for a 2001 Silo......I'd say the dealer has too many holes in his head.

If you want new, you can order it from this website - I've had no problems with them. If you want it used, you can try a salvage yard. Only issue with used is that it might fail again.

It's very easy to get at, and (by the way), you can also get some parts for it, so just because the dealer says it has to be replaced, it may just be the head of the compressor, or something else.....

Or, you can just disable the system....personally, I like the system and would get it fixed, but in my opinion the dealer is gouging you at $1000.....Glen

Re: Help! ac compressor

Okay, I'm clueless....I thought you were talking the air compressor in the rear.

For the air conditioner compressor, I believe that places like Autozone have rebuilt units for less (Advance Auto has one for about $400 for my 2003) but I guess I'd first check with another shop to see if that is really the problem. Many non-dealer shops will give free estimates - I'd try one that specializes in heating and A/C....

Sorry, Glen

The only honest thing he said was not to install a used unit. A new one lists for 751.46 but you can get it for 432.09 from P&G Chevrolet in PA. www.partszoneonline.com . I just ordered a outside air temp sensor for the overhead console $5.42 + about $1 S&H. My local Olds dealer here in Florida wanted $34. A set of new fog lights was about $104. The same Olds dealer here wanted $290.

Re: Help! ac compressor

Hi,
I have a 2002 Silhouette and my air compressor just blew too! I think there should be a recall. There seams to be a lot of air problems with them. It is only an '02 for goodness sakes. Of coarse my model has the most expensive compressor. Has anyone found a reasonably priced one yet? The job is going to cost me $880.00 (the compressor is $493.75 & add everything else up - comes to $880. Any suggestions or help would be wonderful. Thank You

Re: Help! ac compressor

Cherry-auto.com has compressors. I ordered one for my riviera for 120 with a 90 day warranty, and was half of what autozone wanted, a quarter of what the dealer wanted.

Thumbs up Re: Help! ac compressor

there is also a seal behind the a/c compressor that will leak freon out it will let a/c oil get on the pully the dealers don't want to fool with trying to put one in the seal kit sold at the olds dealer runs $45.00 and you need a a/c clutch tool to pull a/c clutch off and press it back on with runs $26.00 i put one in my '99 and it beat $900.00 for new a/c compressor
