Washing Engine...help needed!

Is there a SAFE way to rinse dirt/dust off of an engine yourself, or should it be left to the professional detailers?

Son has a 1997 Dodge Ram SS/T he bought less than a year ago. He's looking at selling it and we'd like to clean up the engine compartment. It was extremely clean one year ago, and now just has mostly dust on everything.

Any help would be appreciated!

Make sure the engine is cool and use some engine degreaser. Let it sit for a little bit and wash it off. Be careful about getting water on the coil and elec components though.

also do not use high pressure just let the hose spray out gently when you do it. when you go to start it afterwards it may have a slight fit just let it sit for a little bit then try again. it may spit and sputter for a little after you get it started but if you take it out for a nice joy ride it will clean itself out.

as a professional detailer i always u a certian product by CARKEM but ordaniry soap will work, just squirt around and let it sit for a sec. If your gonna sell it the just take a rag and wipe it down in the dirty spots. I take a pressure washer and hold it a reasonable ways away and wash it of, it make take hittin it twice but it will work.
