A/C problem
My 99 1500 4x4 4.8 is not blowing cold a/c. I bought a can of recharge, the kind with an inline guage. I started to pump in some refrig, and the guage was reading 55 lb, but when the compressor kicked on it immediately dropped to 25 lb. When it shut off it went right back up to 55 lb. Any ideas ?
I bought a new compressor/evap/orifice off ebay last year and had it installed because I was haveing a bad noise coming from the compressor pulley (which actually turned out to be the a/c clutch). |

For anyone using them and can kill or injure you and your air cond system. Here is what you need to safe and proper recharge it. http://www.ackits.com/merchant2/merc...uct_Code=66773 http://www.ackits.com/merchant2/merc...e=DIY-STARTER1 http://www.ackits.com/merchant2/merc...ode=DIYADVANCE Now are you just trying to recharge it this year or was it ever recharged and working last year after the compresser and stuff was replaced? If recharge last year what was it recharged with? Was the right air cond oil put in it? was it pimped down and a vacume pulled on it Did that death kit you are trying to kill it with have any stop leak crap in it? Is it a blend freon or the good R-134? Tell us more and get a pressure reading on the high and low side with the proper recharge gauge at idle and at 2000 RPM with the compresser running? And post back pressure readings. MT

Re: A/C problem
MT-2500 has a good point. Don't ever use the cheap crap w/the sealer in it. Use only R134, and don't use the florescent "leak detector" either. I hate that stuff.
The pressure drops and rises because the compressor kicks off/on. It's low on freon. There's a 99% chance that the compressor has a leak. I have replaced too many to keep track of. New (A.C.Delco) units aren't cheap and the cheap rebuilds are junk. Visteon came up w/a revised design that aren't prone to case leakage. If you do replace the compressor, get advice (or have someone else do it) from an expert. |

Re: A/C problem
I agree on the "death Kit" statement. You should not screw around with the A/C unless you know what you are doing. I'm suprised that product liability issues have not forced those parts shop A/C refills off the shelf.

Re: A/C problem
Is the Visteon compressor better than the OEM Delphi? Visteon is sold at carquest and local parts shops. I let the compressor go all winter and now am gonna have to replace it. Of course the ebay seller (aircoparts.com) is completely unresponsive when it comes to warranty on the part I got from them.
