Passing Gear Cable

I have a 1989 Camry, V6, automatic transaxle with a damaged passing gear cable. It needs to be replaced - I can not get the cable out of the transaxle. Can the cable be removed from transaxle (after you remove the two hold down bolts) with out dropping the transaxle pan? If you can remove it with out dropping pan, how do you do it? Can I use a cable from a 1989, 4 cylinder Camry? Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Passing Gear Cable

I doubt the cable from a 4 cylinder would fit 6 cylinder model. You could call the dealer to check on that. On my 91 4 cylinder I had to remove the pan to change the cable, I simply used it as an opportunity to change the transmission filter at the same time.
