Question about Power Steering Line
Hey guys have a quick question about the main power steering pressure lines running from the pump to the rack on a 91 talon fwd. My problem is the metal part of the line that attaches to the rack is leaking and needs to be replaced. now my question is, is that metal line just a short line with a flare nut on each end that connects to the rack at one end and to the flex hose on the other? thats the way it kind looks from up top but have a poor visual. and if that is the way it is, does anybody know what kind of flare and flare nuts are on the line? can the line be made or is it a wierd flare that has to be purchased?
thanks for your help in advanced Nathan

Re: Question about Power Steering Line
I have a 1g at the garage with no motor, I'd go take a look if it wasn't an hour away
The previous owner had some line failures, and just bought the individual pieces from the dealer. They weren't expensive IIRC. I'm starting to wonder if the high pressure line is all one piece though, that would suck. I don't think it was, but it's been so friggin long...

Re: Question about Power Steering Line
Ya I know I've replaced the small pressure lines under the rack before and holy that was a pain!!! worst job ever! the flare nuts were so stripped! then I went out and bought a set of those 'stripped nut sockets' and got them out np! those things are great! but I know with those lines, they were nothing special except for the wierd flare they had on them. I just wondered if the main pump to rack pressure line also had this wierd flare. I dunno, I guess I'll just have to pull the line and check it out for myself, main thing that sucks is when its your only car, if you do need a specialty part, you need it right away!

Re: Question about Power Steering Line
Definitely sucks when it's your only car. Personally I wouldn't even touch those lines with the motor in the car, but I'm getting lazy in my old age

Re: Question about Power Steering Line
haha ya it sucks but its got to be done! I hate leaks on a car! I have a frigging oil leak I have to pinpoint aswell. Hey do you know where oil could be coming from thats dripping off the alternator bracket. I know my one bottom right exhaust stud is loose and have seen oil seep from it before (oil channels behind it i think) but I dunno if it was nearly enough to cause a large drip off the alternator when the car is shut out. is there any place else it could come from around there?

Re: Question about Power Steering Line
I'm pretty sure that high pressure line your talking about is all one piece. It could be different on a 1g, but its all one line on my 2g. I probably wouldn't wanna touch it either with a motor in. Its fun enough without the motor in the way. lol
