Engine numbers

can anyone tell me where on what part of the block i might fight the engine numbers on a 1992 model 318is? and what is the number to indicate it is a sposrts model. cheers

do you mean the code, like S70 or M52? like the engine series?

Early model 318's engine code is M42.

its ok i found it .was stamped on the lower part of the block,just making sure the S was there meaning it is the sports model. cheers
