Mirage paints

Could anyone post a guide to using the duplicolor mirage paints, i'm thinking about using them on my ITR, and Prowler? Thanks for the help.

ummm.....

1. read directions!!!!!!

if you need more instructions...
2. paint on primer...let dry
3. paint on base coat...let dry
4. paint on color change coat...let dry
5. paint on clear coat...let dry
6. polish
7. admire paint

use multiple coats at each step. (two coats?)
i would sand the base color coats lightly. but i wouldnt sand the colorchanging coats

I have used Krylon and HOK color changing paints and they both use the same tech.

1. apply the base coat to primer. (black)
2. apply several light coats of the color
3. apply several light coats of clear

Pretty basic. The Krylon stuff goes on a bit thick for my tastes and a bit dark for color changing paint. I really like the HOK paint but at $22 an ounce its hard to forgive yourself when you screw up a paint job!!

Do you have to buy this sort of paint that they use on the REAL showcars? And where do you get the colour changer paint? probably the most stupid questions you heard but i know nothing about these paints and i want to paints my 32 in some of it

you can get the duplicolor paints at K-mart

there are 2 color choices... i think they are maroon to gold, and blue to green.

the 3-can set is only $18. much much less than the true show-car paints used in the real spray shops.

I agreee that the Krylon stuff is cheaper than say a bottle of HOK paint but the ratio to finnished cars per either cheap stuff vs the expensive is a big difference. I have been able to do only 4 cars using the Krylon 3 can system you can buy at Wal Mart/ K Mart vs. 10-15 + cars I can do with one bottle of HOK Kameleon paint at $22 an ounce. The difference is that the Krylon stuff is shot out of the can and goes on thick and takes several coats to get a "good" look. As where you airbrush on the HOK paint and use a small portion of paint even with two or three coats I use very little paint.

BYW House of Kolor paint can be found at your better chop shops and you might be able to let them sell you an ounce or two. OR you can be lucky and have a dealer in your area like me who sell in 1 once jars and 1 quart sizes.

Here's theDupli-Color Mirage home page, I think it will answer most questions.
I used it and it goes on great,dries quickly and will take polishing nicely !
This is the old Revell '57 Cad painted with Mirage Purple/Green kit !
