Air bubbles in tranny fluid, 2005 4.2L V6
At 33k I decided it was time to change the transmission fluid. I dropped the pan, cleaned it out, replaced the filter and replaced the fluid with that new multi-vehicle synthetic formula from Mobil 1.
The operation of the tranny seems a little stiff now, and when I check the fluid level I notice air bubbles on the dipstick. Is this normal after a fluid change? |

Sounds like you may not have the filter seated properly in the case, and it may be sucking air there. Since you mentioned it shifting funny, or a bit stiff as you said, you might want to drop the pan again and check it. If you cleaned everything good, and use a clean container, you can save the fluid. You can filter it thru coffee filters to be sure it dont have any trash in it.

I replaced the filter and I believe you were right. The old filter had some damage to the gasket (I got it from autozone). I replaced it with one I got from advance auto parts and it had a good gasket on it. The truck seems to be running a lot smoother now. Thank you.
