Question Cooling Fans Not Working

I was woundering if anyone can give me a few ideas of what might be wrong. Today i took my 95 trans am LT1 down the road for maybe 4 min and on the way back it over heated and boiled over. I topped off the coolant when i got back and left it idle for a few moments to rid the radiator of the air and i noticed that the cooling fans were not turning on once it reached opperating temp. I checked the harnes and all connectors are pluged in. I do have axcess to a GM Tech scan tool to attempt to manualy opperate the cooling fan but id rather fix it befor then if possible. Has anyone had this proble,m befor?

Re: Cooling Fans Not Working

might be bad fuses or dead fan motor.. check the fuses with tester first and see what happens..

Re: Cooling Fans Not Working

Definatley verify the fan motor is good, then work your way backwards to the ECM.

Re: Cooling Fans Not Working

They are also kicked on based on a collant temp. sensor. If that has failed the computer wont kick the fans on sometimes. If you have access to a scan tool, use it anyway just to verify all this stuff. If you can kick the fans on with it, then you have an electrical issue in the wiring/sensors.

Re: Cooling Fans Not Working

I agree. Check that the fans work first and then have the PCM scanned. My guess since there are two fans and it is highly unlikely that both went at the same exact time or within very close area of time to each other. I think that either its a wiring issue or a faulty coolant temp sensor.

Thumbs up Re: Cooling Fans Not Working

What happend was theat the coolant cap must not have been tight and it boiled over. Then once i tryed ti refill it it kept boiling over and i couldn't figure out why. Must have just been air locked and it wasn't knicking the fans in. I borowed a scan tool and activated the cooling fans manualy to make sure that they were working. When i had the scan tool on the car i reved it at about 2500 in park untill it got hot enought to kick the fans in but it wasn't until about 107 befor they came on, even then they were still only on low. But its all good now.
