voltage ?

ok i just put an alternator on my firebird after finding out that it was dead i drove it for a week with that bad alternator i put the new one on and whenever i stop at a red light for about 10 sec. or longer my voltage drops down and car dies but it will fireright back up i was wondering if u thought it was the batter but i did take it to advance and it tested good which confused me. i had the car running disconntected the batter to see if a ihad a faulty alternator but my car stayed running so the alternator was good. any1 have any suggestions any help would be nice thanx

Re: voltage ?

Did you charge the battery before starting it up after replacing the alternator?

Sure the belt tension is good?

Re: voltage ?

ok the batter was charged up and i have came to the conclusion that its not the battery b/c i took batter from other firebird and its doing the same thing and yesterday it idled in park for 10 min. no problem when i put it in gear the car died. Torque converter will cause it to die when shifting in gear but will it cause it to die if it has been in gear and ur just sitting there?

Re: voltage ?

Re: voltage ?

If the TCC (torque converter clutch) goes south, it can stall the motor, it'd be almost the sameas dropping the clutch without throttle on a stick.

Re: voltage ?

really? damn, ive had crazy amounts of crappy automagic cars and ive never had the tcc fry on me.. haha
when it idles like crap, does it jump around like the engine is straining to move? or does it just sort of crap out like the engine is being starved of something..
