who likes the 4.7L

Looking at getting rid of my old 95 w/ 5.2L any quirks with the 4.7L?

Re: who likes the 4.7L

The 4.7 is a great engine for me. I've got 97k miles on my '02 and only have had a TPS go out ($25) and nothing else with the engine. With the whole truck, I've had that, a clutch pack go out in the rear LSD and the ball joint recall. Great truck. The 4.7L is a bit on the week side to me so I modified it with a K&N FIPK, Ported TB, JBA Headers, 206 cams and a Magnaflow catback - WOW, is it a great engine now! My mods are recent however read these forums and DodgeTalk.com and you'll see many people have good opinions of the stock and modded 4.7L.

...just my 2 cents.

Forgot to mention - my Dakota is a 4X4 Quad Cab with 32" tires so that may be why the stock 4.7L is a little on the weak side.

Re: who likes the 4.7L

hey iv been looking at getting a new dakota well knew to me 2000-2003 and i cant decide between the 4.7 sport or the R/T everywhere i go i hear the R/T is faster but when i test drive them they seem so guttless, the 4.7 is pretty damn quick i find. anyone else see this or am i just retarted... P.S the R/T goes pretty good if u just stomp it to the floor i guess but who wants to do that the 4.7 seems to pick up alot quicker without flooring it.

Well, I don't know what r/t's you've been driving but ummm... from waht I hear r/t's are supposed to run 15's stock. And for a stock truck that's quick. I'll tell you right now that 4.7litre ain't runnin' no fifteens. Maybe the 4.7 litre's you've been driving are supercharged. That might make some sense.

no man they seem torquer. and i was going from a 2500 deisle into the R/T and the R/T seems slow even compared to that. i was def not impressed with them at all. Also the 4.7 are completly stock well one had dual exhaust but all that did was make it sound sexy.

Re: who likes the 4.7L

There must have been something wrong with the R/T.
The one I drove (stock) was a little difficult to drive b/c it had so much torque that it would spin the tires really easy at stop lights.

Re: who likes the 4.7L

The r/t's are not as good as everyone say's. My friend has a 94 s10 with a 4.3L and when he raced my cousin's r/t ext. cab he was right next to him until 3rd gear. My truck witch is 97 sierra, 5.7L, nothin but true duals and k&n intake i bet my cousin by 2-3 truck lengths and I raced other r/t's before some that spun a lot and some that didn't spin that much and I never lost and always won by atleast a truck length.

Re: who likes the 4.7L

Back to the original question.. I have a '00 Dak QC 4x4 Auto (45Fre) 4.7l. I love the truck, The engine runs pretty good, however I am not a very reliable source considering my truck had the "death flash" done to it before I bought it and now I can't find any shops that will re-flash it for me. Even with this flash though the engine still produces plenty of power and getup-n-go. For a 5800lb truck, this thing runs like a striped-ass-ape. I can easily burn the rear tire/s from a dead stop with the wheels locked forward.... now if only I can get rid of this damned flash!!! oh yeah, only mod's is full-synthetic oil/lubes all around and a dyno-max muffler. Hope this helps!

Re: who likes the 4.7L

I have been using a 2001 Dakota QC 2wd with the 4.7 v8 as a work truck for over 3 years now. It's got 172K miles on it (it had 30K when I bought it) and all I've had to replace is the Throttle Position Sensor on the engine and the clockspring in the steering wheel. I get over 20 mpg fwy/ 17mpg city. It has been one of the best vehicles I've ever owned.
