Pinched lower radiator hose
I posted a thread about my car overheating and I was checking out all of the hoses. I noticed my lower radiator hose is pinched shut. When I try to pull it apart it just sucks back closed. It is not completely closed but, it is deffinatly restricted. Any ideas as to what is causing it?

Re: Pinched lower radiator hose
it's old?
just replace it, that pipe sucks though because you have to drain everything.

Re: Pinched lower radiator hose
The pipe might be too long or it could be turned the wrong way causing the kink in it.

Re: Pinched lower radiator hose
Odds are you need a new radiator cap.

Re: Pinched lower radiator hose
Your hose has been heated pinched so now it will stay like that, you need to get a new one now

Re: Pinched lower radiator hose
radiator caps have a 2 way valve in them and if they stick closed they wont vent off the pressure and they cause a whole bunch of problems. Lower hoses getting sucked flat are usually caused by blockage somewhere, but try replacing the hose and cap first and if it still happens look to clean out your radiator

Re: Pinched lower radiator hose
Hmm. I will try to do this all tommarow(I have off work). Hopefully the stores will be open tommarow or at least part of tommarow. How exactly would I go about cleaning my radiator out? If it is going to be too much of a pain in the ass I'm thinking about just buying a new radiator along with fans.

Re: Pinched lower radiator hose
Well if it keeps getting sucked flat that is your best bet

Re: Pinched lower radiator hose
When the coolant heats up it expands, and some of it moves into the recovery/overflow tank (hence the different level markings for cold and hot). When the coolant cools back down it contracts, and should pull coolant back into the radiator from the recovery tank (this is why the system has to be closed, and there is a siphon tube that extends to the bottom of the recovery tank). If the radiator cap doesn't allow the coolant to be pulled back in the negative pressure in the system will collapse the hose. Naturally, I'm assuming you noticed this condition with the car off. If it stays the same with teh car running, or it does not snap back when you remove the radiator cap, it could be a restriction as mentioned above.
This happened on the EVO once. A bad HG put a quart or two of oil in the cooling system. The oil caused all of the rubber seals in the system to swell up and expand. The rubber gasket under the radiator cap was so big that when I put the cap on it would block the passage to the overflow tank, and when the car cooled the radiator hoses would collapse.

Re: Pinched lower radiator hose
Radiator cap is cheap! Replace once a year, WTF, over and out? It is money well spent. The cap is the least looked at part of the cooling system IMHO. Even though it can cause probs. just as quick as any other part of the cooling system.
