All opinions welcome...

I need people to talk to about this... Some of you know that I went to ITT Tech for Multimedia and graduated with an Associates Degree... First of all I want to make it very clear that ITT sucks big hairy nads... Anyways... They made all these promises to help with job placement and showed me astonishing numbers of their students that get jobs after graduation and such... I have since found out that all the classes were a joke, only 3 of us in the class took it all seriously and nobody from my graduating class has a job yet... Including me. I am a fucking janitor... Yes, a janitor. I hate it and I want ITT to be destroyed. Not only am I making absolutly no money, but I have about 10k in student loans I am trying to pay back right now...

Here's the current situation... A few weeks ago my grandfather that I was very close to suffered a massive heart attack and died at home. Oh lucky me, I just happened to be working at the hospital that morning when they brought him in. Yeah, just the way you wanna find that out. Needless to say I was off work for about a week. Lets top it all off with my highly insensitive , now ex, girlfriend... She said some things about it that pretty much blew me over the top and I packed up and moved back home. The reason I decided to come home was because ever since I had moved out, things at home got way better. So I came home and dealt with the girlfriend BS for about 2 weeks and then said the hell with it and I broke up with her... (just talked to her some today, I really miss her ) So, now I am single, a janitor, and in need of fixing my Talon which will take like 2 years to do as a janitor... Last night I came to a serious realization that I WANT to go back to college, but this time one that is completely focused on Film Animation... That is what I have wanted to do all along but ITT was more of a general touch of everything college... Not what I was expecting... So, I dropped it on my parents tonight that I wanted to go back to college again and get a real degree that I can use... Mom of course told me I HAVE to sell the Talon and get a brand new car. I was like umm, hell no? I bought the Talon, I fixed the Talon several times, and I pay for everything on it. Its here to stay... She told me there will be no college as long as the Talon stays... So I went to dad... He said theres no point in going for this "again" and ending up without a job still. I told him he doesn't realize that ITT didn't teach us shit and that I can't stay in this area if I want to get a real career for this... He closed his eyes and sat there ignoring me...

Great, I'm back to planet Bullshit...

So what the hell should I do guys? Should I sell the Talon in hopes of getting my mom to help me go back to school? Or should I say screw them all and do it on my own and show them whats up when I land an awesome job? I just don't know what I should do or where I should go... I've been looking online at colleges that specialize in Animation in different areas... One that I looked at was the Art Institute of (theres several locations, the closest to me in Pittsburg.) Has anyone heard of any specific schools that are really well known for Animation?...

I just don't wanna see the Talon go when I've put so much time, work, and money into it...

Re: All opinions welcome...

Hmm.. if it helps any, I am single, a delivery boy and I'm taking a year off school. First off, I like being single, I have a relation ship with my car(s), and if I want action, that's what parties are for, haha. I love delivering food to people.. you don't know how many interesting stories you hear at the doorstep. ..and last, I'm taking off a year from school.. so I can't travel across Canada. I felt that I've never really been anywhere but central Canada and the Rocky Mountains, but I haven't seen any of these "moose and loons and beavers" that Canada's supposed to be about, haha. Also, I'll be traveling to Japan in December. So you see, it's not all so bad, it's just how you look at things. I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather though By the way, I've also had my part in caretaking. I'm only 17 and I've done it for about two years now, and that's how I got my Eclipse.

From one DSMer to another, I say sell the car for education. Education can take you a lot further than a car can. In the future, you'll be able to afford another DSM if you want to. That's what I plan to do. At the age of 17, I can't afford licensing and insuring all of my vehicles (I also have a truck which was my first vehicle giving to me by my dad). My DSM is currently not plated and it's just sitting there, so unfortunately, it has to go (sometimes, when I feel very daring, I simply switch plates from my FC onto my Eclipse, but shhh )

I've never liked my mom, honestly. She's bitchy and she never agrees with anything I say, but when I look back, I think about how much I like who I am now, and there's only her to thank. Listen to your parents, they know best. As for your dad, sometimes it's better if they stay out of the way, haha. Most of my automotive problems were caused by my dad but hey, it's only been a learning experience to me.

So simply, do what you want, like definitely get into film animation if you want to. An alumni from my school is actually a head animator for Pixar movies. Yes, from the shallow depths of Regina, (the city that rhymes with fun) someone actually has made a name for themselves and I plan to be the next. Just keep your head up, it's not the end of the world. Every disaster will only make success even sweeter

Yea I agree I hate to say it but you can always get another Talon. Sometimes there's just a higher calling. When you make enough money you can do whatever you want, but your not going to be able to do that on a janitors salary. Sorry about your grand dad I hope everytrhign works out for ya.

Man, what a pickle. Selling the car would be the best thing to do. But if my mom told me I would have to sell my eclipse to go to school, I'd be like, hell nah. But I don't know man.

BTW: I was wanting to go to ITT, but not anymore.

Re: All opinions welcome...

I don't really wanna sell it though guys... I mean, I really wanna go back to school and live my dream of working on movies and such. But I love my car so much... I guess I just wanna do both... Finish my car and go to school. I don't care if the car doesn't get done anytime soon. Heck, it wasn't gonna get done for like a year probably anyways...

Vanilla Gorilla, steer clear of ITT. None of the teachers or students took it seriously... I learned very little for the amount of money I have in that school... The teachers just didn't take the time to teach us all the little things we wanted to know. There were 3 of us who had great ideas and stories and such, but the teachers held us back. We tried working on projects outside of school but it was hard because there were some things we didn't know how to do and the teachers told us "we would never need to know how to do that." Hence the reason I hate them so much... They are fools. The entire entertainment industry is beginning to revolve around computer animation and I can clearly see that. How many movies DO NOT include some type of computer animation now? Very few... I have so many ideas for movies and projects that I started while at ITT, I just wanna finish them all... I wanna feel like I accomplished something during my life...

Re: All opinions welcome...

Wow dude, that sucks. I wouldnt do either. I would sell the Talon and not go to school. 2 student loans plus a new car loan = a shit ton of debt. You wont get a job straight out of school, I would give it another 6-8 months before you get worried about it.

Ooops. My bad I don't know why I said ITT. It was actually UTI that I was thinking about. But I think all of those places like that are almost the same anyway. UTI is probably just as sucky.

Uh oh... I just bought everything I needed to finish my motor... Opps.

I tell ya what... A late night, all alone, in the dark... Just me and the internet... I seduces me everytime I look at car parts.

Looks like college won't be starting for me this fall now.

There is a VERY VERY big difference between ITT and UTI. ITT is a "give us your money and we'll teach you a half-ass degree" sort of college and UTI is a very respectable technical institute, at least to my understanding anyways.

Anywho, I think your moms advice is completely out of left field, why would you want to buy a NEW car and have a car payment on top of your student loan payment, plus you'll be racking up bills from when you do go back to school. IMO, that's the worst advice a parent could give, that would completely overload you on the bills, especially working as a janitor and it would drive you into debt very quickly. I think you should explain to them your situation and what a new car payment would do to you on top of what you already owe, and if they still don't want to help, do it on your own bro, nothing could be sweeter than completely proving your parents wrong. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Re: All opinions welcome...

Thanks for the information. I've been thinking about UTI alot. I haven't really took the time to do too much reasearch about them, but I've been considering them as an option because there is one in my state and they teach what I want to learn. I've been thinking about body work and paint. I've always been into painting things. I don't know if the pay is good or not, but I really don't care too much. I just want to do something I love. I'm thinking about taking a course this year at a community college in body repair, then using what I learn combined with what I already know and doing all the needed body work on my Spyder. Then taking it to someone that I really trust and that I know does quality work and getting them to spray the car. That way I know that it is done right and that underneath all the pretty paint that my car isn't a big mud pie. After letting someone fix the passenger side of my car and paint it......I know I'm doing it myself next time.

gthompson: You do body work right? How do you like it?

Re: All opinions welcome...

Yeah, I've pretty much decided that now that I ordered all the motor internals that I'm gonna finish the whole car first. I will look more into all sorts of school and see what I can find and what the best one would be for me. I probably won't go back until next fall now at this rate... Oh well, at least I have a plan now.
