1959 cadillac WIP

This is my current project, I have seen very few of these here on the forum, l searched and the last mention was almost 4 years ago!! It's a great kit I think, very easy to lower. The body is going to be Testors Hot Magenta, I don't think Cadillac ever did "pink" right. I'm having problems with dust and paint though, I'm on my 3rd repaint... I'll get it right eventually.
As you can see, I removed all the body moldings and opened up the grille.
The engine wil have a little detail, just ignition wires and maybe a pe fan.
The interior is actually hot magenta too, it's not as red as the pictures suggest.

Interesting; please edit your post and put a space in between each image (hit the "enter" key) so that we don't have to scroll side-to-side to see the pictures and they display properly one above the other.

Re: 1959 cadillac WIP

I have 2 of these and look forward to starting one. great job on the engine. the fan looks perfect and the belt and pulleys are very nicely done. I think the seats are a bit too shiney thou but the seat belts are very convincing. looking forward to more.

Re: 1959 cadillac WIP

Thanks for the interest folks. Not much progress the last few days, I sprayed the last coat and it looks pretty good, now waiting for it to dry out, then clearcoat and polish. I've just been working on some of the smaller parts and the pictures did not turn out very well. Not much detail to see at 0.3 mpix.

Re: 1959 cadillac WIP

Well, I started on the body today, managed a halfway decent job on the BMF

Also added some of the detail items in the engine bay

Then I added some scrap PE as brackets

I wanted to add the sunvisors included in the kit for the convertible version.
There are visors molded on the windshield so I had to remove those. You can guess what happened right?
Yup, I broke the glass, so now I have to make a new windshield. To late for that now, That will be a fun project for tomorrow.

Re: 1959 cadillac WIP

this is coming along very nicely. engine bay is really brought to life with your details. too bad about the windshield, curious to how you make the new one.

Re: 1959 cadillac WIP

Well here is the final product... I ran into a few problems during final construction, mostly mine probably but maybe a few from the model aswell.
I was not able to reconstruct the windshield because it has such a strong bend on top and to the side there so I ended up with the cracked one. I guess I could have tried to get a replacement from MG but I did not want to wait that long.
Then I could not get the bottom to fit flush with the body, still is a bit off on the right, then a gap between the grill and the body I had not noticed during test fitting and lastly the tail lights' fit is pretty bad.
Here are the pictures..

Hope ya'll like it, not my best effort, next one will be better.
